How do you expect Santa Claus to traverse across the globe, showering gifts for children without a good ride? More importantly, what’s a good ride without great driver-assistants like reindeers?

Just like Santa, real estate giant Megaworld Corporation and its corporate social responsibility arm Megaworld Foundation starts their unique celebration of the Christmas season by giving children with clefts the gift of a smile with the help of the reindeers.

Through an exciting donation program, Megaworld reached out to organizations, communities, sectors, and individuals to help raise funds for this cause. At the same time, Megaworld transformed all of its townships across the Philippines, including The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City, into a Reindeer Park.

At our Christmas Reindeer Park, you can find reindeer displays made of wooden cut-outs. These cut-outs vary in sizes and donation amount.

Last November 7th, the day the entire country observed the first ever Smile Day Philippines, we gathered individual artists and benefactors at our luxurious 30-hectare township in Lapu-Lapu City. They showed their creativity and resourcefulness in designing and painting the sponsored reindeer cut-outs.

The painted reindeers will be displayed at the Christmas Reindeer Park set up across several townships of the Megaworld from November 13, 2015 thru January 3, 2016.

The proceeds from these reindeer parks will be turned over to Operation Smile Philippines Foundation to provide surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities to their beneficiaries free of charge. Operation Smile Philippines has been helping children born with cleft palate since 1982.

A beloved icon

Reindeers are famous for being Santa Claus’s helpers.

Popular stories say that Santa Claus used to travel the world with the use of his sleigh pulled by flying reindeers to present gifts to good children every Christmas day.

This belief started in the 19th century with the poem written by Clement Moore titled A Visit From St. Nicholas, commonly known as A Night Before Christmas, wherein he mentioned Santa’s mode of transportation as a flying reindeer-drawn sleigh.

Aside from Santa Claus, the reindeers have become an important and beloved symbol of Christmas. Without them pulling Santa’s sleigh, gifts wouldn’t come in time for Christmas.

A word of thanks

Like Santa, Megaworld created its own reindeers to bring the gift of a smile to children born with cleft palate.

As of November 5th, Megaworld has raised P3,641,300 from the reindeer cut-outs for the surgical operation of 242 children with clefts from all over the Philippines, way beyond what was originally the targeted P1.5 million to fund for 100 child beneficiaries.

To all donors, partners and supporters, thank you for your help!
